Personal art creation & OC threadCENTURYNo.39
File: 1778798226370.png (625.66 KB, 1725x634, image.png)

Hello everyone, a friend recommended me this site to use for making OCs.
I will be using this thread to post my art studies while also developing my characters.

I do both traditional and digital art; I am also practicing voice acting and singing.

Welcome to the club! We would love to see what you're up to!

Hands can be nasty sometimes. You can check the anatomy for sculptors book in /metaoc/, there is a section about the form of hands. As for drawing methods, there was this video by David Hinch https://youtu.be/YcM5PHft0EQ which had some good tips. But the basic thing is that the lines between the finger joints should be curvy, to make them more dynamic.

Thank you very much! These look great.

Do you also have any materials related to conveying emotion with masked characters? I'm working on an OC that's wearing a holeless ski mask but I'm stuck between conveying too much or too little emotions.

one of the books is about the anatomy of facial expressions. my guess is that you are only working with eyebrows and maybe a few muscles around the mouth. I dont have material specifically about this topic, but you could do a study on them comic heros, like spiderman or deadpool.

are you measuring how much time it took to draw it?
CENTURYNo.69

>>68
Yes, I'm trying to speed up the time it takes for me to sketch out a good figure. I've had issues with being too perfectionist, so hopefully these sketches can help improve that.

I think I will start getting into music and singing since I'm beginning to hate how inadequate my art looks despite all the time I've spent drawing.

first time making music, I made a little loop with a viola, muted trumpet and brass section

how is it?

Maybe you just need to spend twice as much, I don't know what the standard is

take your time, dont expect results asap and try to also enjoy what you've made. It's easy to see mistakes in one's art, so chill out and accept your current weaknesses (and if you can, play around them).

I'd recommend that you also draw finished drawings, instead of just "exercising" (it could be as simple as editing an already existing picture or doing a parody). And make something that others will enjoy (this is very important, that's what got me back to drawing, after quitting for a while). I'd much rather see your projects, than just sketches.

If you wanna, listen to some music to get ya in the mood. Or go outside and enjoy the weather. Your emotional state can have an affect on your performance.

Here are some drawings i did around two/tree years ago. They are bad when it comes to anatomy and color, but I still enjoy them and people back then also did.

Not necessarily. You can have a study session (lets say, you wanna see the muscles around the eye) and by that I mean you look at reference drawing/picture and you try to notice any details and you copy them as sketches. Then you can put that study into practice, by drawing something you like (while looking at your study sketches for reference, if you need it). But spending twice as much is just going to get you tired, can worsen your performance and can demotivate/burn you out.

Thank you for the advice, I am a pretty moody person so I'll try drawing when I'm in the correct headspace.
