afaik it's because you can assign numbers to points on the curve and find their sum by interpolating the points and seeing where else the interpolation intersects. the game with cryptography is to add a point to itself a bunch of times because it's difficult to undo this. it's the same idea as adding an angle to itself many times: once you go past 360° it's hard to guess how the result relates to the starting point.

yeah, roughly they're what you get if you take half a polynomial curve and mirror it over the x-axis, but smoother. they're used in cryptography because you can speed up arithmetic by converting it to geometry.

You mean the way her hair is swept? I thought that that came out well too. It was hard to figure out what to do with four arms so that they don't look messy.
